The transition between calving and returning to the milking herd is a critical time for dairy cows. In this period they will have a high energy demand. This can have multiple impacts on macro and micro nutrient levels. A change in levels can leave the cow at risk of ketosis, milk fever etc. Getting this transition right is key to a successful return to milk production. We've pulled together this fact sheet as a summary of all the critical information you need to know in order to improve transition. However, every cow and system is different so please seek advice from your vet if you're unsure how something may fit with your current process.
